Visiting MoCSSy
Join MoCSSy as a Visiting Scholar
View a list of scholars who visited and/or are visiting MoCSSy.
MoCSSy embraces collaborations from researchers locally and world-wide. MoCSSy Visiting Scholars are researchers from outside of SFU who come to SFU to work with the MoCSSy program for short periods of time. Visiting Scholars typically stay between 1 and 4 months, but longer visits are welcome. While visiting, Scholars are expected to share research ideas and collaborate with other MoCSSy members.
Visiting Scholars are typically engaged in active research relevant to the MoCSSy program.
Some funds are available to ease the costs of visiting SFU (typically sufficient to cover travel costs plus a small monthly budget -- these funds are not sufficient to cover salaries or expensive accommodations).
Who is eligible?
- Ph.D students: The student should send a cover letter and CV to the MoCSSy program director. The cover letter should express interest, explain why the visit would benefit both the student and the MoCSSy program, and provide a proposed time and duration of the visit. The student should also arrange for two reference letters to be sent to the MoCSSy program director on their behalf. One of these letters must be from the students senior supervisor and express support for the idea and knowledge of the proposed time line. The other letter may be from any fellow researcher of high academic standing. Both letters should address the quality of candidate and the nature of the student’s research. Candidates will be judged on academic standing and research overlap with the MoCSSy program.
- Tenure (track) faculty: For Tenure (track) faculty that seek to visit the MoCSSy program on a sabbatical (or similar research term) should send a cover letter and CV to the MoCSSy program director. The cover letter should express interest, mention who the visiting scholar hopes to collaborate with, and provide a proposed time and duration of the visit. In addition, the individual must arrange for a letter to be sent from their Departmental Chair that support the scholars visit and shows knowledge of the proposed time line. Candidates will be judged on academic quality and research overlap with the MoCSSy program.
